Reflexology – incl Maternity and Postnatal

Maternity Reflexology

Reflexology is a complementary therapy that involves the application of pressure to specific points, known as reflexes, on the feet to encourage the body to heal from within. The therapy is based on the principle that the feet contain ‘mini-maps’ of the whole body and that by applying pressure using the fingers or thumbs a reflexologist can have a positive effect on the corresponding parts of the body. It is also a known technique to help induce labour once you have reached full term.

Reflexology may be used if you are suffering from any of the following common discomforts of pregnancy:

  • Nausea and morning sickness
  • Constipation
  • Fatigue
  • Heartburn and acid reflux
  • Mood swings
  • Insomnia
  • Fluid retention
  • Back and hip pain
  • Anxiety
  • Sciatica

Adding a reflexology session before or after your Hypnobirthing course will allow you to drift down deeper into relaxation and get the very most from your sessions. It will also give your feet a bit of TLC which I am sure they have been lacking since falling pregnant!

Postnatal Reflexology

Maternity Reflexology is also excellent in the postnatal period. It can help regain equilibrium to your body which has been through huge physical and emotional change for nine months. Some symptoms reflexology can help with at this time are:

  • Balancing hormones/ encourage menstrual cycle to return to normal
  • Prevent postnatal depression
  • Encourage lactation
  • Backache
  • Low energy
  • Stress
  • Insomnia
